PBIS - Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports

2025 PBIS Platinum

WHAT IS PBIS?

PBIS helps schools teach and support positive behavior. It shows students what good behavior looks like at school and in the classroom. PBIS has levels of support so all students get the help they need. Teachers teach behavior clearly and praise students when they make good choices.

WHAT IS P.R.I.D.E?

At Orange Grove Elementary, P.R.I.D.E. helps us remember how to make good choices at school.

P.R.I.D.E. stands for:

P – Punctual: We will be on time, every day.

R – Respect & Responsibility: We will respect ourselves, others and property and take responsibility for our own learning.

I – Integrity: We will do the right thing, even when no one is looking.

D – Determination: Determination begins with the decision to try.

E – Everyone’s Safe: We will follow all rules to make school a safe place to learn.

PBIS PRIDE PLEDGE

Staff at Orange Grove use a Behavior Matrix to teach what P.R.I.D.E. looks like in different places, like the classroom, playground, and hallways. Students review these expectations often. We also hold school-wide assemblies during the year to help everyone remember and practice P.R.I.D.E.

PBIS Behavior Matrix

PBIS Behavior Expectation Posters show what PRIDE looks like in different places at school, such as the classroom, playground, and hallways. Teachers review these posters with students to help everyone remember how to make good choices and stay safe.    (See Side Panel for Behavior Expectation Posters by Settings)

PBIS COUPONS FOR POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT AND REWARDS

PBIS "Stallion PRIDE Coupons" are used to recognize and reward students for making positive choices and showing PRIDE. Students earn coupons when they follow school expectations, demonstrate kindness, responsibility, and effort, or go above and beyond. These coupons help motivate students, reinforce positive behavior, and celebrate success in a meaningful and encouraging way.

HOW WE HELP STUDENTS LEARN POSITIVE BEHAVIOR

When a student needs help with behavior, staff use teaching tools to guide and support them:

  • Conference with a Student: An adult talks one-on-one with the student to understand what happened and help them make better choices next time.
  • Reflection Form/Think Sheet: Students write or talk about their actions, how others were affected, and what they can do differently.
  • Behavior Expectation Re-Teach: Staff review and practice the expected behavior with the student to help them learn the correct choice.
  • Loss of Privilege: A student may temporarily lose a privilege to help them understand responsibility and expectations.
  • Alternative Recess: Alternative recess is a short time when a student takes a break from regular recess to talk about their behavior and practice better choices. During this time, the student may reflect, complete a think sheet, or review behavior expectations with an adult. The goal is to help the student learn, reset, and return to recess activities ready to make positive choices.

These steps are meant to teach, not punish, and help students grow and succeed.(See Side Panel for Behavior Flowchart, 3 Column Notes for Behavior Reflection, Reflection/Think Sheet and Apology Letter)

WHAT CAN PARENTS DO TO SUPPORT PBIS AND P.R.I.D.E.?

Parents and families play an important role in helping students practice positive behavior at school and at home. Here are some ways you can help:

  • Ask your child about their day and listen to how it went
  • Talk about making good choices and showing P.R.I.D.E. at home and at school
  • Ask how your child earned Stallion Coupons and celebrate their success
  • Read books together that teach kindness, responsibility, and good behavior
  • Stay in touch with your child’s teacher about behavior and share what works at home
  • Watch for school messages about PBIS and P.R.I.D.E. events and updates

PARENT VOLUNTEER PRIDE COUPON

Parents have the opportunity to earn a "Parent Volunteer PRIDE Coupon" when participating or volunteering in different events at Orange Grove School.  At home or in your presence, your child can earn the coupon by showing PRIDE behaviors, such as being respectful, responsible, and safe. When giving them the coupon, explain to them the reason why you are giving it to them (Examples: Listening when I called for you, Putting your belongings away without me telling you, Being safe in a moving vehicle, etc.)  Once earned, students bring the coupon back to school and use it toward school prizes and rewards. This helps connect positive behavior at home with positive behavior at school.
